Is There THC in CBD Oil

Is There THC in CBD Oil?

Did you know that 1 in 7 Americans say that they use CBD? Despite the popularity of the substance, there are still a lot of misunderstandings surrounding CBD.

One popular one is whether or not CBD products will get you high. So, is there THC in CBD oil? The answer can get a little complicated which is why we made this article.

In it, we’ll be diving into the details. That way, you can decide if CBD oil is the right choice for you. Let’s get started!

What Are CBD and THC?

Before we learn if there’s THC in CBD oil, it’s important to first understand exactly what these two things are. Both CBD and THC are cannabinoids — the chemical compounds that make up cannabis plants.

It’s important to note that there are hundreds of different cannabinoids. It’s just that CBD and THC are two of the most popular ones. Now, CBD and THC have slightly different chemical structures.

Though slight, this difference leads to different effects when they interact with the cannabinoid receptors found in our nervous system. When these receptors are activated they release a flood of neurotransmitters that produce the sensations we associate with CBD and THC.

CBD doesn’t get you high. But, it can provide a relaxing sensation that isn’t psychoactive. On top of that, it’s also been used to treat:

  • Inflammation
  • Insomnia
  • Depression
  • Anxiety relief
  • Pain relief
  • Seizures

Similarly, THC can also be used to treat pain, anxiety, and insomnia. The difference is that THC is a psychoactive agent that can get you high.

Specifically, it produces feelings of euphoria, brain fog, and in some cases paranoia. THC is illegal on a federal level.

However, thanks to recent legislation, CBD now enjoys legal federal status. We’ll go more into that in the next section.

Is There THC in CBD Oil?

If you don’t want to get high from your CBD oil, then you’re likely asking yourself this question. The answer is that it depends. Certain CBD oil products do contain trace amounts of THC in them.

However, there’s an important caveat. The way that CBD was legalized was through the Hemp Farming Act of 2018. This piece of legislation stated that cannabinoids and products coming from hemp plants were legal on a federal level.

The only stipulation is that CBD products must contain less than .03% of THC in them. So yes, there’s a chance that your CBD oil does contain THC.

But, it makes up such a small percentage that it’s impossible to feel anything.

That being said, if you’re uncomfortable with the idea of THC in your CBD oil, then there are THC-free CBD products for you. We’ll go over them in the next section.

The Different Types of CBD Oil

When you purchase CBD oil you will likely see a label on the front of the bottle explaining what type of product it is. You can break CBD oils into three categories: full spectrum, broad spectrum, and CBD isolate.

In this section, we’ll be explaining the difference between these types of extracts. That way you can choose the best one for your needs.

Full Spectrum CBD Oil

Let’s start with full spectrum CBD oil. This type of CBD oil contains CBD as well as all of the cannabinoids that come in the hemp plant. This includes things like CBG, CBD, flavor terpenes, and THC.

However, as we already mentioned, it’s required to contain less than .03% of THC. So, you don’t need to worry about getting high. So, why even include the THC?

Often, it’s because of something known as the entourage effect. The entourage effect is a theory that the health benefits of cannabinoids are more effective when you take them altogether.

There is some evidence to support this. In one study, full spectrum products were more effective at treating mood disorders like anxiety.

Broad Spectrum CBD Oil

Next, there’s broad spectrum CBD oil. This type of product contains all of the cannabinoids found in hemp plants. The difference is that there’s no THC present.

It’s a great option for people that want to take advantage of the entourage effect without exposing themselves to THC at all.

For example, this THC-Free Broad Spectrum Extract that we offer is rich in cannabinoids and contains 0% THC.

CBD Isolate

Lastly, there are CBD isolate products. As you can probably guess from the name these products contain CBD and nothing else. You won’t find any cannabinoids, terpenes, or phytonutrients.

It’s a good option for people that want to ensure that they’re only being exposed to CBD and nothing else. However, as we mentioned there’s a chance that the CBD in it won’t be as effective.

So, if you’re using CBD strictly for health reasons, then you might want to consider a different product.
